How do I know I am getting a fair price for my gold?

We will show you the math behind your offer so you understand exactly how we arrived at the number. If you want to compare offers from other buyers, we encourage it. We want you to leave confident in your decision.

What karat gold do you buy?

Accepted Answer

We buy gold in all karats commonly found in jewelry and bullion: 10k, 14k, 18k, 22k, and 24k. We also buy gold coins, gold bullion, and gold dental work. Higher karat gold has a higher value by weight because it contains more pure gold.

Do I need an appointment to sell gold?

Accepted Answer

For small quantities (a handful of pieces, one coin, a single chain), no appointment is needed. Walk in during store hours and we will evaluate your items. For larger collections, estate items, or coin collections, we recommend scheduling an appointment so we can give your items proper time and attention.

How long does the evaluation take?

Accepted Answer

For one or two simple pieces, plan for about 15 minutes. For larger collections or estate items, allow 30 to 60 minutes. We will tell you up front how long we expect the evaluation to take.

How will I be paid?

Accepted Answer

Payment is by check, issued the same day. If you accept our offer, you leave with payment in hand.

Can I bring gold from an estate or inheritance?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Estate gold is a significant part of what we evaluate. If you are settling an estate or working through a family member's belongings, we can help. For estate-sized collections, please schedule an appointment so we can give the evaluation the time it deserves.

Do you buy gold-plated or gold-filled items?

Accepted Answer

Typically no. Gold-plated items have only a very thin gold layer that is not practical to refine. Gold-filled items have slightly more gold but usually do not contain enough to justify an offer. If you are unsure whether your item is solid gold, plated, or filled, bring it in and we will test it and tell you what you have.

Do you buy gold dental work?

Yes. Crowns, bridges, and gold caps are accepted. We evaluate based on weight and purity, the same as any other gold item.

Do you buy gold coins?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We buy gold coins including American Eagles, Krugerrands, Canadian Maple Leafs, British Sovereigns, and many others. For certain coins, numismatic value (collector premium beyond gold content) is also considered. Bring them in and we will identify and evaluate them.

What is a pennyweight and why do you use it?

A pennyweight (abbreviated dwt) is the traditional unit jewelers use for weighing precious metals. One pennyweight equals approximately 1.555 grams. We weigh every item in pennyweights on a calibrated scale in front of you and show you the readout.

How do you test gold for purity?

Accepted Answer

We use multiple methods depending on the piece. Markings inside the item (10k, 14k, 18k, 585, 750) are an initial guide, but markings are not always accurate or present. We confirm purity through electronic testing and acid testing as needed. Every piece is tested before we make an offer.

Is there a fee for the evaluation?

Accepted Answer

No. Evaluations are free, with no obligation. You can come in, get a written offer, and decide whether to accept or take your gold home. There is no charge either way.

Question 13

What if I want to use my gold payout toward a new piece or repair?

Accepted Answer

We offer 20 percent additional credit when you apply your gold payout toward custom jewelry design or repair work. This is one of the most meaningful ways to part with heirloom gold: transforming it into something new for the next chapter.

Can I have a new piece made from my own gold?

Accepted Answer

For yellow gold projects, yes. We can incorporate a portion of your heirloom gold directly into a new cast piece. To maintain quality and structural integrity, any cast piece must be at least 50 percent fresh gold, with up to half coming from your heirloom pieces. That means part of what you bring in can literally become part of what you wear next.
For white gold, rose gold, or projects where direct incorporation is not the right approach, we apply the value of your gold (plus the 20 percent additional credit) toward your new piece, which is then made from refined gold of the appropriate alloy.
 
Either way, your gold becomes the start of something new. We will walk you through which approach makes the most sense for your project during your consultation.

Do I need to bring identification?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A valid government-issued photo ID is required by Ohio state and federal law for any precious metal transaction. We document the transaction as required and keep your information secure.

Can I sell gold even if some pieces are broken or damaged?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Condition does not matter for gold buying. Broken chains, twisted pieces, single earrings, damaged rings: it all has value based on weight and purity. There is no need to clean, polish, or repair anything before bringing it in.
