Lab grown diamonds offer larger size or higher quality for the same upfront budget, but do not retain value over time. We help you compare both in person so you can decide what fits your priorities.

How much should I spend on an engagement ring?

There is no fixed rule. The right budget depends on your priorities and your situation. We help you understand what different price points actually buy you in person, so you can decide what feels right without unnecessary pressure.

How long does it take to make a custom engagement ring?

Plan for 8 to 10 weeks from initial consultation to completion. This allows time for design development, stone selection, production, setting, and final finishing. If you have a specific date in mind, start the process as early as possible.

Can I use a diamond or piece of jewelry I already have?

Yes. Heirloom diamonds and inherited pieces are part of much of our custom work. We can evaluate the stone, design a new setting around it, or incorporate it into a redesign through our custom jewelry design process.

Do I need to know my partner's ring size?

Helpful, but not required. If you do not know, we can estimate based on other information, and ring resizing can be done after the proposal if needed. The goal is to get close enough initially and refine the fit later.

What if I don't know exactly what I want?

That is normal. Most clients do not. Your first appointment is more about exploration than decision. We help you discover what you respond to, and the answers usually emerge as you see options in person.

Can I see options in person before deciding?

Yes, and we recommend it. Online photos cannot show you what a diamond actually looks like or how a setting feels on the hand. In-person comparison is the single most important step.

What happens after I choose the ring?

We move into production. For custom rings, this is the 8 to 10 week build. For in-stock or quick-customize options, the timeline is shorter. We keep you updated throughout. When the ring is ready, we walk through it with you before you take it home.

Shape

Round brilliant diamonds are the most popular for engagement rings because their cut maximizes light return. Ovals, cushions, emerald cuts, and pear shapes each have a distinct personality. The right shape often relates to the wearer's existing style.

Cut quality

Cut quality is the single biggest driver of how a diamond looks. A well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully and can appear larger than its carat weight suggests. We will show you the difference between an excellent cut and a fair cut in person. The contrast is dramatic.

Color

Color is graded from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow) for natural diamonds. For lab grown diamonds, GIA now uses Premium and Standard descriptors. Most engagement rings sit in the near-colorless range, where the stone looks white face up but offers more value than a top-color stone.

Clarity

Clarity refers to internal characteristics (inclusions) and surface characteristics (blemishes). For most engagement rings, an eye-clean stone (one where inclusions are not visible to the naked eye) is the right target. You do not need to pay for flawless.

Carat weight

Carat is weight, not size. A well-cut 1.0 carat diamond can look larger than a poorly cut 1.25 carat. We help you balance carat weight with the other Cs to get the best-looking stone for your budget.

Solitaire

A single center diamond on a simple band. Clean, classic, timeless. Lets the diamond do all the talking.

Halo

A center diamond surrounded by a circle of smaller diamonds. Adds sparkle and can make the center stone look larger.

Three Stone

A center diamond with two side stones. Often interpreted as "past, present, and future." Side stones can be diamonds or colored stones such as sapphire or ruby.

There is no rule about what to spend. The old "two months' salary" guideline was a marketing campaign from the 1940s, not a financial principle. The right budget is the one that feels right for you and your situation.

What we will help you do is maximize the budget you set. Within any budget, there are trade-offs between size, quality, and design complexity. We will show you what your budget actually buys, in person, so you can decide which trade-offs you are comfortable with.

Focusing only on carat size. A well-cut 0.9 carat diamond often looks better than a poorly cut 1.1 carat.
Buying without seeing the stone in person. Online photos and certificates do not tell you how a diamond actually looks.
